Looking forward to a summer of great cycling but not sure where to go or how to get there? With over 100 routes the Tyneside Vagabonds Club Rides Route Library is sure to have what you are looking for. Put together from tried and tested routes ridden by club members, it provides an unrivalled source of out and back club riding routes to popular venues within a 40 mile radius of Ponteland, some routes that are a little further afield, and some designed for training purposes, as well as courses used for time trials and hill climb events.
Ranging between 30 and 100 miles, the club riding routes offer something for all types and abilities of rider and can be easily adapted to suit your personal needs. The routes can be viewed on a computer, smartphone or tablet using any of several different map types. They can also be downloaded to GPX or other formats for use out on the road.
The library is growing and dynamic so if you have any good routes that you think others would enjoy let Keith Aungiers know.
To access the library from the club website either:
- from the menu at the top of the screen select 'The Club' then scroll down to 'Club Rides' and across to 'Club Rides Route Library'
- or click on the red box 'Club Rides' to go to that section of the website where on the left you will see a link to 'Club Rides Route Library'
Following either of these will take you to the home screen of the Library at https://ridewithgps.com/users/400003.
Having not raced for the last few seasons I decided that I would have a crack at this years Cyclocross. I had never raced Nationally in this discipline so there was going to be a challenge gaining the skills and the particular fitness required for this event. In preparation I planned to race as many of the local CXNE events to gain some experience. I race in the U14 category which is a combined race with the U16 category. Typically there are around 40 competitors in the race across both categories.
Go Ride Coaching
We have one more coaching session this Saturday 10th Feb before half term. We will then have one week off and resume on Saturday 24th Feb running for 5 weeks up to and including Saturday 24th March.
This block will continue to focus on techniques and skills and be mostly undercover making use of the ramps, rollers and kickers etc. Please come with trainers and flat pedals so you can get the most out of the sessions and not worry about clipping in.
Please be prepared for the colder winter weather and dress appropriately, including gloves, as although under cover its will still be cold, particularly as such skills sessions are typically less active.
Venue: Thorneyford Farm, Kirkley, Ponteland, NE20 0AJ
Time: 8:45 - 9:45 Cost: £4 on the day
The coaches will split the riders into groups using different pieces of equipment and rotate around to try and keep everyone as active as possible.
The club rides will continue to depart from the farm at 10am although there will be no further Youth Club Rides until the finer weather returns in the spring. Please ensure that you start in the slower groups and only progress when comfortable to do so. If in doubt please speak with one of the coaches and remember all members under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please remember that unaccompanied youth members can join a ride at the discretion of the rider leader. A parental consent form must be completed and emergency contact details provided to the ride leader.
Go Ride Racing
There will be Go Rode racing this Saturday 10th February after coaching. We will try to find a dry patch of the field and put some of the skills you’ve all been learning into practice
Go Ride Half Term Coaching
There will be a half day coaching with the regional BC Go-Ride coaches at Thorneyford Farm on the morning of Thursday 15th Feb. Please keep a look out for more information…
