Please note that a new venue is being used for this block at the Quorum Business Park where we have recurred use of the closed car park for road coaching. The buildings will be opened to allow access to the toilets. All bikes should have brakes and gears in working order and all riders will need to wear a cycling helmet.

Venue: Q12 at the Quorum Business Park, Benton Lane, Newcastle, NE12 8BU.

Time:     8:45 – 10:00         Cost:     £3 on the day

The coaches will split the riders into appropriate groups based on their ability.

Please arrive in plenty of time to sign on and get ready for an 8:45 start.

On Saturday 1st April we have booked the cycle circuit at Middlesbrough Sports Village from 3-5pm.

Address: Middlesbrough Sports Village, Alan Peacock Way, Middlesbrough TS4 3AE

This is a dedicated tarmac cycle circuit.  We will provide a coaching session followed by a Go-Ride Race where the kids will be able to put into practice the road skills they have learnt during the coaching block. There’s plenty of parking and a café in the main building.

Racing Opportunities

With the CX season over for another year our attention now moves to the coming road and MTB season for those wishing to race. Event information can be found on the British Cycling website where you can filter races by region and rider category to quickly find suitable events. Events get posted regularly as event organisers submit their information so keep an eye out.

The North East Youth League (NEYL) is a good series of races and if you complete 5 out of the 8 events you will qualify for a league ranking and maybe an award at the end of season presentation night. There are separate skills events being held at alternate events as below with prices for the winners.

A successful first full year of operation saw the Sunday C group rides growing in popularity.  We organised 42 rides of varying distance and toughness to a variety of cafe destinations, and these were enjoyed by groups of up to 20 riders.  Special thanks are due to the cohort of leaders who gave their time and effort to ensure that the rides were varied, enjoyable and successful.

We will be continuing in 2017 with a full programme of rides, meeting every Sunday with the exception of days when major club events are being held.

These are not rides for beginners but are intended to be attractive to regular Saturday riders or other moderately fit riders who would like a sociable group ride of between 50-65 miles at a steady pace (typically 14mph) in remote, beautiful and often hilly parts of Northumberland and Durham, and occasionally further afield.  Typically the rides follow minor and traffic free roads which include some challenging climbs, with a pre-determined lunchtime café stop.  The riding group always tries to stay together with the leader and, where gaps open, the group will slow down to ensure that no one is left behind.

If that sounds like your thing why not come along to Jan's cafe for a 9:30 start any Sunday.  You are guaranteed a good day out.

For more details see the events calendar or contact any of the ride leaders: Andy Berne, Brian Finlay, Austin Wilcock, Alan Holmes, Margie Jackson, Simon Simms, Gordon Atkinson, Roger Clarke, Keith Aungiers.
