Looking forward to a summer of great cycling but not sure where to go or how to get there? With over 100 routes the Tyneside Vagabonds Club Rides Route Library is sure to have what you are looking for. Put together from tried and tested routes ridden by club members, it provides an unrivalled source of out and back club riding routes to popular venues within a 40 mile radius of Ponteland, some routes that are a little further afield, and some designed for training purposes, as well as courses used for time trials and hill climb events.
Ranging between 30 and 100 miles, the club riding routes offer something for all types and abilities of rider and can be easily adapted to suit your personal needs. The routes can be viewed on a computer, smartphone or tablet using any of several different map types. They can also be downloaded to GPX or other formats for use out on the road.
The library is growing and dynamic so if you have any good routes that you think others would enjoy let Keith Aungiers know.
To access the library from the club website either:
- from the menu at the top of the screen select 'The Club' then scroll down to 'Club Rides' and across to 'Club Rides Route Library'
- or click on the red box 'Club Rides' to go to that section of the website where on the left you will see a link to 'Club Rides Route Library'
Following either of these will take you to the home screen of the Library at https://ridewithgps.com/users/400003.
Using the library is easy. To search for a route to a specific destination enter a place name (or part of a name) into the search box then select the 'Filter' button. Entering els for example will bring up routes to and via Elsdon. Some routes have photos attached to whet your appetite and it is also possible to search by scrolling through the thumbnails seen on the left of the home screen.
When you have found what you want click onto your chosen route to view the map and elevation data in more detail. Use the drop down box at the top to change the map type.
Use your browser back button to return to the home screen.
To view the complete list of routes in the Library, select 'Go to Routes' from the home screen. You will see small maps of the most recently used routes and below these a scrollable list of all the routes in the library. Scroll down or use the 'Height +' button to see more routes. A map of the currently selected route is shown at the bottom of the screen.
To change the order of the list click on 'Route name' to sort alphabetically; click once on 'Distance' to sort from shortest to longest, click a second time for longest to shortest; click once on 'Ele. Gain' to sort from least to most ascent, click a second time for most to least ascent.
Select the route you want then click on 'View'.
