Saturday 19th Club Ride - New Guidelines, please read
17/09/2020 20:21 by Adrian Snell (no replies)
Our club rides are at the heart of the club. We have a range of club rides including:
Half day rides on a Saturday
Full day rides on a Sunday
Midweek rides (Tuesday in summer only, and Thursday)
Women And Girls (WAGs) rides
Saturday rides usually include a ride at a gentler pace suitable for newcomers to club riding.
Club rides with a café stop are prefixed by a C, and non-stop training rides are prefixed by a T. Take a look at the event calendar to find a ride at the level that suits your fitness.
Each ride category is defined principally by pace; a pace range is given for guidance-a winter ride or a route over more challenging terrain will be at the lower end of the range, while a summer ride or a route over flatter roads will be at the higher end of the range. Sunday and Tuesday rides tend to be over a greater distance (50-60 miles or more) than Thursday or Saturday rides (35-45 miles). Sunday routes and lunch venues tend to be planned in advance-one reason for this is because the cafe options are more limited on longer rides, a booking is sometimes necessary, and also to avoid more than one group arriving at a small venue together. The faster paced rides will be over varied and sometimes more challenging terrain.
While it is expected that no rider will be dropped from any group, riders are expected to have a suitable level of fitness for the ride they join, and newcomers should consider joining a group they are confident with, and move up as appropriate.
C1 – ~12 mph (11.5-12.5 mph)
C2 – ~13 mph (12.5-13.5 mph)
C3 – ~14 mph (13.5-14.5 mph)
C4 – ~15 mph (14.5-15.5 mph)
C5 – ~17 mph (16.5-17.5 mph)
C6 – 18 mph+
T1 – A 30-40 mile non-stop group training ride at an average speed of 16-17mph on undulating terrain, but with no significant climbs. Use of group discipline, and signalling, is expected from all riders as you will be riding in close proximity to others. It is recommended that you are able to comfortably ride with the C3 rides as a minimum before attending this ride: although the group will strongly endeavour to remain together, including mechanical assistance at the discretion of the Ride Leader, you need to be prepared to find your own way home in the event that you are not able to keep up.
T2 – A 40-60 mile non-stop group training ride at an average speed of 17-19mph on undulating terrain with the occasional significant climb. Use of group discipline, and signalling, is mandatory during this ride: you will be reminded by the group if you forget! You must be comfortable with group rotation and, ideally, familiar with riding 'through and off'. It is recommended that you are able to comfortably ride with T1 or C4/C5 rides before attending this ride: although the group will make some allowance to remain together, including mechanical assistance at the discretion of the Ride Leader, but you need to be prepared to find your own way home in the event that you are not able to keep up.
T3 – A 50-70 mile non-stop group chaingang ride with an average speed of 20mph+. Experience in fast, disciplined, chaingangs/pacelines is expected at all times. It is recommended that you are able to comfortably ride with T2 rides before attending this ride. Please make sure you are able to make your own way home as this group will not wait in the event that you have any problems, or cannot keep up.
