TVCC 100 mile TT - 13 August

Post by Mark Reed » Thu Jul 20, 2017 12:47 am

Hello everyone,

I'm promoting the 100 mile time trial for the club for the 6th time on 13 August. The event has grown in popularity over that time, in line with a more general increase in interest in time trialling, and this year we will have a brand new course, so course records are guaranteed!

The old faithful 5x laps of the M20 has now been knocked on the head due to 20mph speed restrictions in Stannington Village. The all new course has been devised based on just under 4 laps of a just over 25 mile circuit north of the Wansbeck on altogether flatter roads.

The course is expected to be something like this: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/22374612 with the start just west of Pegswood village and the finish just south of Ulgham village.

There are a lot more junctions that the M20 course, and although the risk assessment is not yet completed I know that the event will need an absolute minimum of 12 marshals, possibly more, and hopefully some helpers who may be able to offer a neutral bottle hand up service.

There's no official club runs organised on that day, so I would be most grateful for any help from any members who might normally be out on a Sunday club run, and indeed any members who might not be!

I can't fib, it's always a tough gig marshaling at such a long event. We'd need to muster at the HQ at around 6.30am for briefing, then the last rider may not be finished until after 1pm. However, if I'm somehow oversubscribed with prospective marshals then there's always the possibility of marshaling a portion of the event before handing over to someone else - many hands make light work!

Please consider coming to help out at the event, it's an important event for the North East District of CTT and the Northumberland and Durham Cycling Association and I'm proud that the club has managed to keep it going since 2012 when its future looked very bleak indeed.

Please let me know if you're able to help out - you can reply to this post, bell/text me on 07944 490 039 or email mark.reed@netsparts.com.

Many thanks,
Mark

Count me in. Adam intends to ride this year. Hope it's not as windy as the last 100 I marshalled for everyone's sake.

Eileen and I will do the neutral bottle swap if that is acceptable.

I'm sorry Mark, but I can't help this time round. I'm down at the Nat12 helping young Grieves.

Hi Mark. As you know I've told Ken Thursby I'd act as his feed station but am at your disposal when free of this. Cheers Russ

Many thanks to those who have offered to help.

I have 3 confirmed marshals, I need at least 9 more to make this event happen, so at the current rate the outlook's not good! As a a reminder there are NO official club runs planned for this day, so if that is your usual Sunday muse, please consider helping out to get this event on.

Russ do you think you can feed Ken AND marshal somewhere? Marshals often do and that would be a great help.

Also Ken may wish to a avail himself of Eileen and Graeme's neutral bottle service (many thanks btw), which in my experience is first class and absolutely no different to having your own personal helper in a particular position on the course.

Thanks in anticipation!
Mark
