Graeme's 3rd Ironman

Post by Graeme Gow » Mon Jun 30, 2014 2:23 pm

For those members who don't have access to Facebook, I will add a little update on here.
Most of you will be aware I was competing in Ironman Austria yesterday (29th June 2014) accompanied by the ever dependable Eileen. The event is a 3.8k swim, 180k cycle and a marathon.
I completed the course in a new P.B of 10hrs 3 minutes and 34 seconds, just 3 minutes and 35 seconds outside the time I was aiming for. After the finish I had my customary visit to the first aid tent to have 3 bags of ISO fluid put into my veins and a bag of magnesium fluid to stop the cramps and muscle spasms.
Many thanks for the support camaraderie and (urine extraction) from the fellow Vags during my seven month journey of training.
Long may it continue.

Well done Graeme. That is a very good time.
What were your splits please? I want to do a sub-10 hour iron man one day when I eventually start doing long distance triathlons. To do a good time, I reckon you need to do the damage on the bike leg. I too would consider Ironman Austria as I believe it's one of the faster courses being quite flat? But I also hear it can be stupidly hot. To be fair, I reckon the Outlaw in Nottingham may suit my anglo saxon cool weather loving nature!
